Teachers not only have to be able to plan lessons to carry out in a classroom environment but also need to be able to plan field trips to places of interest that will assist their learning.
When choosing where to take children on a trip you not only need to evaluate the educational benefits that the students will gain from the experience but also the safety aspect. Teachers will be required to scope out all elements of the trip and make an assessment on the risks involved and if they are reasonable to allow the trip to go ahead. There is a mathematical calculation that the teacher will carry out to work out the risk factor and then depending on the score, they will know if that particular activity is safe enough.
Taking children out of the classroom environment will bring additional challenges often with the children’s behaviour, as often pupils tend to get over excited and act in ways they may normally not.
